The name of the Society is "Peace Region INTERNET Society".
The purposes of the Society are:
to establish, maintain, operate, and administer a public INTERNET
node, to serve the Peace River Region of British Columbia
to afford its members all the usual accommodations, privileges, and
advantages of an INTERNET society;
to obtain, establish and maintain access to the INTERNET, and to
such other conduits of electronic information that might be available and
appropriate;
to promote electronic communication in all its forms, including the
proper use of INTERNET facilities;
to provide, operate and maintain facilities for INTERNET
communications for the use of its members and others;
to provide a means for the exchange of information and ideas by
way of electronic communications;
to educate its members and others in the proper and effective use
of INTERNET and other forms of electronic communications; and
to acquire, establish, maintain, operate, lease, licence, hire and
generally to deal in and with all software, rights, equipment, machinery,
and apparatus in any way used for, or in connection or associated with
the production, generation, regulation, transmission, distribution or storage
of information in electronic form.
The purposes of the Society shall be carried out without purpose of
gain for its members, and any profits or other accretions to the Society
shall be used for promoting its purposes. This provision is alterable.
Upon winding-up or dissolution of the Society, the funds and assets
of the Society remaining after the satisfaction of its debts and
liabilities shall be distributed or transferred in this manner and in this order:
in addition to any legal obligations in this regard, employees with more than
one year's seniority shall receive a severance amount equal to 1 (one) week's wage
or salary for each year of service with the Society;
of any remaining funds and assets, an amount not to exceed ten thousand dollars
shall be given or transferred to the Peace River Science, Technology and
Innovation Council;
any remaining funds and assets shall be given or transferred to the General Scholarship
fund of Northern Lights College or its successors.
