Addiction Research Foundation (ARF)
Founded in 1949, the ARF is an agency of the Ontario Ministry of Health. It
operates a central research and treatment facility in Toronto and 12 community
program offices in centres across the province. Since 1977, the ARFhas been a
collaborating centre of the World Health Organization, participating in
international research and carrying out training programs in other countries.

Addictions Foundation of Manitoba
The Addictions Foundation of Manitoba is the provincial authority responsible
for providing prevention and treatment programs related to chemical misuse and

Al-Anon/Alateen
"AL-ANON (and ALATEEN for younger members) is a worldwide organization that
offers a self-help recovery program for families and friends of alcoholics
whether or not the alcoholic seeks help or even recognizes the existence of a
drinking problem. Members give and receive comfort and understanding through a
mutual exchange of experiences, strength and hope. Sharing of similar problems
binds individuals and groups together in a bond that is protected by a policy of
anonymity." Resources on this website include questionnaires to help
friends and relatives of an alcoholic determine whether these programs will help
them, articles about the shared problems for spouses and children of alcoholics,

Institute
The Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute is a multidisciplinary research center at
the University of Washington in Seattle. Its mission is to support and
facilitate research and research dissemination in the field of alcohol and drug
abuse. The website provides information about the Institute's current research
projects and publications. The institute's library provides access to current

Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse
The Canadian Centre on Substance Abuse (CCSA) is an arms-length, national
agency, established in 1988 by an Act of Parliament. Funded by Canada's Drug
Strategy and through its own revenue-generating efforts, the Centre: promotes
informed debate on substance abuse issues and encourages public participation in
reducing the harm associated with drug abuse; disseminates information on the
nature, extent and consequences of substance abuse ; and supports and assists
organizations involved in substance abuse treatment, prevention and educational
programming. The website includes links to substance abuse and EAP databases,
and informational materials related to FAS/FAE, substance abuse in the
workplace, and gambling.

A 12-step recovery program for people who share an addiction to cocaine. The
website provides information about the program, a self-test, and contact
information for local C.A. groups.

Hazelden Foundation
Hazelden is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people recover from
alcoholism and other drug addiction. It provides residential and outpatient
treatment for adults and young people, programs for families affected by
chemical dependency, and training for a variety of professionals. Their site
includes a calendar of events and a bookstore where you can purchase books and
videos by Hazelden and others.

National Inhalant Prevention
Coalition
Provides a wealth of information about inhalants and inhalant users. Inhalants
can include hair spray, correction fluid, spray paint, and glues. The site

National Institute on Alcohol
Abuse and Alcoholism
The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) supports and
conducts biomedical and behavioral research on the causes, consequences,
treatment, and prevention of alcoholism and alcohol-related problems. Site
includes links to research monographs and other publications, including the
full-text of the NIAAA's quarterly bulletin, Alcohol Alert.

Detailed information on drugs of abuse, including their effects and current
statistics on their use. Also includes research reports and conference findings.
Some materials require Acrobat Reader. "NIDA supports over 85 percent of
the world's research on the health aspects of drug abuse and addiction. NIDA
supported science addresses the most fundamental and essential questions about
drug abuse, ranging from the molecule to managed care, and from DNA to community
